Kingdom preschoolers, and members of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
St. Peter's Lutheran School Staff Jan Starkey, B.A.
Jan Starkey is founder, director and teacher at St. Peter's Lutheran School. Ms. Starkey is a 1969 graduate of Marshall University where she received a B. A. in education. She has taught in West Virginia and Maryland public schools before founding St. Peter's Preschool and Kindergarten in 1982. Jan enjoys traveling and gardening, is an avid reader, and loves the theatre and the arts. She is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. She has two daughters, Melissa , husband James, and granddaughter, Meredith; and Amanda, husband Chuck, and grandsons Carson and Cameron.
The mission of St. Peter’s Lutheran School is to provide: a developmentally appropriate program of educational excellence; Christian nurture of faith development; evangelical outreach; and safe, loving, trustworthy service to the community. With these goals in mind, we provide a high quality early childhood program in a safe and nurturing environment that promotes the physical, spiritual, social, emotional, and cognitive development of young children while responding to the needs of families. Our developmentally appropriate program is tailored to meet the needs of children through active, experiential learning in a meaningful context. We follow the position statements of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the criteria for high quality early childhood programs established by the Evangelical Lutheran Education Association.
LICENSING: St. Peter’s Lutheran School is licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Education Association. PROGRAM FEATURES:
STAFF QUALIFICATIONS: Teachers are college graduates with a minimum of a B.A. or B.S. degree and teaching experience. In addition, teachers must have fifteen hours of early childhood development training per year. Teachers also must be certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid. AGES: St. Peter’s Lutheran School admits children ages 4 through 6 years.
