Confirmation
CONFIRMATION DAY 2010
See below for CONFIRMATION SCHEDULE 2009-2010 and LETTER TO PARENTS, 2009 We are enthusiastic about the new curriculum we will use this year. Called "Here We Stand" (after the famous speech by Martin Luther), the curriculum is a program that combines traditional print and online resources in a flexible, easy-to-use curriculum. Some of the features we look forward to include: A dynamic combination of print and media Lots of flexible and customizable online resources to meet our needs. The subject matter is theologically sound——clear, consistent, and solidly Lutheran The teen-relevant approach is age-appropriate, active, and modern Participants are actively involved in the learning process. The pastors and adults from our congregation who serve as mentors and small group leaders - join the students for learning events, fellowship events, and service events each month. At the end of two years of participation, eighth graders each year make a public affirmation of their baptismal faith at worship. It's a special day and a special ministry! Letter to Parents, August. 2009 Dear
Parents of Confirmation Students: It’s
time to get ready for the start of confirmation at St. Peter’s
Lutheran Church.
We look forward to another great class of seventh and eighth graders
this year! We
will meet most Wednesdays from 3:30 until 5:30 p.m.
The first half hour is for refreshments and fellowship. The next
hour is divided between personal stories, presentations, and skits
that make the study of the Small Catechism and Bible interesting and
fun. Then, students meet with an adult mentor in small groups before
gathering in the church for a guided meditation, group prayer, and
blessing. The
“Here We Stand” confirmation curriculum that we use
provides an inviting at-home portion of the confirmation experience
that you can share with your young person. The Small Catechism was
originally meant to be taught in the home by parents. In order to
encourage family learning, every week your confirmand will bring
home an assignment that encourage you to be involved in what
your child is learning and provide an opportunity to share your
faith stories. A
schedule for the entire year is in your mailing. Save it! Put it
up where you can easily find it. It's available anytime on the web
at www.splcmf.org/confirmdates.pdf.
Students are expected to attend each Wednesday (3:30 _ 5:30)
unless otherwise noted on the schedule. Note: Since the middle
school’s after-school activities on Wednesdays continue to become
more mandatory each year, please let us know as soon as possible of
significant conflicts for your confirmand. Students also are
expected to attend Sunday School (9:30 a.m.) since during this time
the students cover the Bible Study portion of the confirmation
program. Your
mailing contains an enrollment form. Please return this to the
church office as soon as possible so we will know you are
participating. Be sure to include an email address on your
enrollment form.
